Soon after two lift team guys come up, we forget what we’re doing and start another conversation. The lift team guys say, “Does someone have a dog in here? ” Jen and I simultaneously shit ourselves. Soon after being admitted in his room he complained to the nurse, “I can’t be in here. His dog doesn’t know that he’s dead.” She had assumed he was just seeing things and said, “Oh yeah?
Little kids shapes on the top floor and residents report older women in dresses. She said there were areas of the building she refused to go without another person. I was just about to call the house supervisor to let her know that we “lost” someone when out from the bathroom walks Larry with one of the staff. He had been getting his bath in the bathroom for the last 30 mins or so. I absolutely, without a doubt, saw Larry in the hallway.
I CLOSED HIS EYES AND THEY OPENED AGAIN
There’s gotta be some sort of something that SNF’s do to those employees that just fries their brains. Or the burn out is so severe it just makes em give up? …idk man I feel so, so bad for those people. It’s loss of their license waiting to happen every time they clock in. On our way into the psychiatric wing, my partner notices a male pt laying in another room just before the doors to the ward.
I asked if she was OK and she confessed that she’d had an “accident” and pointed to the panties draped over a lamp. I ignored the accident bit – I’m sure she was embarrassed enough – but just had to tell her that it wasn’t a good idea to hang anything flammable from a heat source. This patient had a routine where he would like to go out for a cigarette every hour, I took him out on a wheelchair for a cigarette which seemed to increase his hallucinations. I had been taking this patient out multiple times during the night. At around midnight I took him outside, for his last cigarette before going to sleep. We decided to address ‘the man’ and tell him that the little boy was scared…the boy said the man turned around and left after that.
Like The Dead Are Leaving The Hospital
You don’t need to be over there, you’re going to get hurt…” and I walked around the nursing station to go grab her hand and bring her back. While I never saw anything as bad as the nursing home horror stories on the news, I know something about nursing home neglect. My poor Gigi, who was such a strong and confident woman, became a shell.
He said a young nurse in a white uniform was standing quietly in the doorway of the dark bathroom staring at him and it was freaking him out. At this my hair stood on end but I reassured him that he must have been dreaming and checked the bathroom just to be sure. There was nothing there but I will never forget it. I have many shit show nursing home stories but my beats all is walking in on a basically naked CNA. She was in a bra and panties and giant fuzzy slippers.
I STILL HAVE HIS ‘DEAD’ GAZE STUCK IN MY HEAD
Voices in rooms that were empty, sound of people moving around when everyone was asleep, etc. I decided I didn’t care how sick he was or how much that family liked me, I was NOT doing another shift there. The following week the call light for the room went off at night. Thinking it was the resident in bed B, I walked down to the room to see what she wanted.
I get there and the doctor had booked a transmetatarsal amputation on a diabetic patient, which is not unusual. When I go to talk to the patient, it turns out that due to his diabetic neuropathy, and therefore lack of sensation in his feet, he had a sore on his toes that had gone untreated . "I walked in on a man trying to get it on with his wife less than 12 hours after having a baby. I gave him a time-out and told him to walk it off in the hallway." Flies make their homes and lay their eggs in filth and decay.
He then informed me he could see a man and a dog running towards us, this is the dead of night with no around in the hospital, there was no man or dog. However when the automatic doors 50m behind us opened with no one in sight, I was no longer sure if they were just hallucinations. I moved us back to the ward very quickly after that.
The man was a Christian, as was his wife, and his wife said she saw this black presence descend above him and his breathing would become labored. She asked myself and a friend to pray for her which we gladly did being Christians ourselves. We anointed and blessed the room and prayed with the family and asked the Lord to seal the room. From that time on the room was filled with peace and love and the man breathed so much more easier.
Our skimmable newsletter is delivered to your inbox each week, giving you 5 things you need to read and get smarter. At any rate, she started ‘dating’ a frail guy, or at least he was spotted making countless trips from the snack machines to her room. I couldn’t bring myself to lift my top off, so I cut it off with scissors rather than lift the dank over my face. That hospital has been around since the 30s, and after working there I am a firm believer in ghosts/the supernatural. My mother laughed this off, pointed out that none of the kids in the ward were seriously ill and went home. That guy is my roommate and hates when I bring up that experience.
She has her leg with the broken ankle contracted up into her ass to self splint it. Three pressure ulcers on her left foot and she’s incontinent, you can see where this is going. We ask a total of 4 nurses if her leg is normally contracted like this. One nurse says yes, one nurse says no, two nurses say they have no idea because they haven’t been there the past week.
One night a nurse went to rest a bit but forgot to lock the door. The security guards then arrived, during their rounds to check, opened the door to see the nurse sleeping, and a homeless dude sleeping on the floor next to her. They managed to get the guy out without waking the nurse, but told her afterwards. They eventually locked those elevators with a code during the night. These places are so short staffed it’s frikin criminal.
Mrs. G was the first patient to die in that unit. She was well liked by all the staff and my feeling was that she was watching over us. The day shift came in, and I told them my story. Another night a nurse who has worked in the unit a few years saw someone sitting in a chair behind the door in Bed 3 with their legs crossed. She wondered since we have limited visiting hours how a family member got in the room. She went in the room and no one was there.
I ran up 5 flights of stairs to bring me to the right floor but the wrong side. I had to pass through a massive abandoned ward that was completely pitch black to get to the ward I wanted. I sprinted down a long dark corridor, huffing and puffing I nearly smashed into an elderly lady.
Then last night cupboard doors kept opening and shutting in the two empty rooms. I finally asked my coworker WTF was going on and she just told me that it usually happens after someone passes, especially if it was sudden. We had two codes last week that we lost and I guess everyone has had weird stuff happening for a couple days. When patrolling this area, several security officers have reported seeing a single white male child around the age of 5-7 with short brown hair (think 90’s bowl cut). I personally dismissed this as a tall tale told with the intent to scare me because I was new at the time.
